Association of BH Journalists and Free Media Help Line are hereby publically protesting against the president of Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, due to the fact that he refuses to give a Press ID Card to Ljiljana Kovačević, a Beta Agency journalist from Banja Luka.

Refusing to give the press accreditation to Ljiljana Kovačević represented the most brutal act of violation of journalist rights, based on a freedom of information, access to all public and state institutions and all events significant to all citizens. This act also presented continuous pressure and violence upon journalist Kovačević, conducted by the president Dodik, who also was deliberately using most offensive language during the Press Conference, held in Banja Luka on June 2, 2012. President Dodik had previously pressed charges for alleged defamation against Ljiljana Kovačević, and since then, he has been openly discriminating her by all means, as oppose to other journalists, by disallowing her to do her job, perform job assignments, depriving her with press acreditation for access to the institution of the president of Republic of Srpska.

We are sorry to say that Mr Dodik has, for a long time, been violating all postulates and principles of civilized behavior and democratic relations towards journalists and media houses, as he, as the function of the president of Republic of Srpska should require.

By acting like this, he put all journalists that have been critically reporting about his activities and decisions, into unequal and discriminated position.

Taking into consideration that his inappropriate and arrogant actions have never been sanctioned adequately by either local or international competent authorities, responsible for protection of free expression and fundamental human rights of journalists, the Association of BH Journalists shall consider the possibility of use of current legal framework in B&H and international documents for criminal protection for Ljiljana Kovačevič and her right for free reporting.

Discriminatory conduct by president Dodik towards BETA journalist Ljiljana Kovačević, shall be officially reported by the Association of BH Journalists to the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media in Vienna and International Federation of Journalists in Brussels and it will consequently require their intervention in ensuring a minimal working conditions for the above mentioned journalist.
